WMODE RECEIVES TOP HONOUR AT ALBERTA EXPORT AWARDS

EDMONTON, March 25 /CNW/ - The Alberta division of Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME-Alberta) today announced the winners of the 10 top exporting companies and individuals at the inaugural Alberta Export Awards.

“The Alberta Export Awards recognize the province’s very best exporters and highlight the export industry’s significant contribution to Alberta’s economy,” said Brian McCready, vice-president of CME-Alberta. “All of the winning companies demonstrate the drive, innovation and competitiveness that is necessary to succeed in foreign markets around the world.”

The Alberta Export Award categories for 2009 included: New Media and Entertainment, Professional and Services, Manufacturing – Oil and Gas, Manufacturing – Other, Advancing Technologies, New Exporter, Sustainability, International Business Studies, Leadership and Exporter of the Year.

“Today we celebrate all of the companies and individuals who have excelled in export success,” said Iris Evans, Minister of Finance and Enterprise. “These winners and finalists have all considerably contributed to our provincial economy through economic growth in their community, new investment and job creation.”

“The success in showcasing Alberta products and services to the world by this year’s award recipients is an inspiration for other Alberta exporters,” said Mayor of the City of Edmonton, Stephen Mandel. “All of the winners and finalists recognized today truly showcase Alberta to the world.”

Winners of the 2009 Alberta Export Awards were selected from amongst Alberta’s dynamic and growing export industry. In 2005, Alberta exported nearly $86 billion goods and services to over 180 countries. International exports account for nearly 40 per cent of Alberta’s GDP. From 1995 to 2005, exports increased by 182 per cent.

The Alberta Export Awards are hosted by the Alberta division of Canadian Manufacturers and  Exporters (CME-Alberta). The awards recognize the province’s top exporters, significantly contributing to Alberta’s provincial economy. All registered Alberta companies that have exported a product or service for two or more years are eligible award nominees.
